Traditional fall porch decorations like pumpkins, gourds and mums are super easy, and budget friendly ways to welcome fall and cozy-up your front porch! By adding these fall staples with your existing porch decor you can get all the fall feels without breaking the bank!
White and pastels are so in right now! I went to the store with every intention of doing an all-white front porch. But when I went to Lowes, they had all these beautiful yellow and orange mums on a clearance sale! And without skipping a beat, my love for color was singing inside me and ditched the neutral design plan.
If you’ve been to In The House Of David before (thank you for coming over and reading again 🙂 ), then you probably already know that I love color, AND my very favorite color is white. But for anyone new to my blog (welcome!!) , I love white not really because it’s “neutral” at all! But becasue in a physics class, long ago, I learned that white light contains all the wavelengths of visible light. And a “wavelength of visible light” is…..you guessed it, COLOR. So, if white is all wavelengths, white is all colors. Ever since that day in class, white was my favorite color…because all the colors are my favorite 😉 See what I did there?
and I’m slowly adding more color all around our home…
The boys shared room have green walls .
And our doors are painted pink and blue .
The playroom has a blue, red, and purple galaxy ceiling .
And I have a blue and pink map in our living room .
…So a porch full of color only seemed natural!
Okay, so now that we had our crash physics lesson and all passed with flying….. colors ( LOL okay, I promise I’m done with the color puns 😉 ) Let’s get back to the tour!
As I was saying, I scratched the original “neutral” design plan and decided to decorate my fall porch in traditional decorations and colors! So lots of yellows, oranges and reds.
Budget was definitely a key consideration when decorating the porch! Our new home is much bigger than our last home, and we’re still working on filling the rooms with furniture and accent pieces. I think David would flip if I spent $$$ on pumpkins and mums that would die (I’m working on a green thumb lol) while there were still rooms needing some TLC.
The planters flanking each side of the front door were the same ones we used in the spring. The petunias had died (you see?….there’s that “green thumb” again) so I replaced them with pint sized mums (which were on sale for A DOLLAR)! I was thinking about replacing the purple ornamental grasses (as they too were on the verge of death lol) but the “dead” parts kind of lent to the fall vibe. So it stays!
I added some more mums around the porch, specifically around the seating areas and the top the stairs.
YOU GUYS! I only spent $5 for these giant 1.75 gallon yellow mums.
I wanted to go the pumpkin patch with the kids but the weather was just miserable….. 90 degrees…. I caved and just bought some from the nearest, air conditioned grocery store (lest I wait too long for cooler weather and the mums die too) !
The “outdoor blanket” is actually just 3 yd of fabric from Joann’s and a 50% off coupon! 😉
I made these outdoor pillows from REUSABLE BAGS! Arn’t they cute? I am making a DIY tutorial over at A Blissful Nest (October 18, 2017) so be sure to check back to see how you can make your own!
And that’s it! My traditional fall porch decoration and tour 2017 on a budget! All in all, I spent less than $20 for all the clearance mums, and assorted pumpkins and gourds! The DIY outdoor pillows made from reusable bags cost me a dollar. Yes, seriously, a buck. So be sure to come back soon to see how I made these! I hope you had fun touring my fall porch! And come back over to In The House Of David again soon!
